Moms Supporting Moms (MSM) is a peer-led, judgment-free support group for women struggling with issues related to pregnancy, delivery and early motherhood. Our weekly support group meetings provide a confidential and safe environment for sharing stories, discussing problems and seeking solutions.
MSM also provides telephone support for moms, and their family members, who have questions or need assistance in between meetings. Our trained telephone support personnel are available to help struggling mothers and their families handle many of the situations they face daily. Postpartum Mood Disorders always affect more than one person and research shows that women recover more quickly with the help of a supportive social network.
The services provided by MSM are an aid in recovery and they work well in partnership with traditional medical treatments from primary health care providers and therapists. If you or someone you know needs professional assistance, MSM can help you find healthcare providers who understand what you are going through.
Please call our telephone support line at 919.454.6946 for more information about meetings or how to find additional medical help. A volunteer will return your call within 24 hours.
*Extreme symptoms that require immediate medical attention include hallucinations, thoughts of suicide, or delusional thoughts that may include a need to hurt the baby. Often, it is a spouse, family member, or caregiver that notices these changes in the mother. Called Postpartum Psychosis, this is an extremely rare event that occurs in less than 1% of new mothers. It is not to be confused with a Postpartum Mood Disorder. Call 911 or take the mother to the emergency room immediately for help.
